I am yet to meet an individual who doesn’t have at least one favourite meal. It doesn’t matter what part of the diet spectrum you fall on – whether vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, etc – each of us can confidently say that food has a special place in our hearts… And our stomachs!
There’s just something about a meal that’s been cooked to perfection in love. It warms your heart, and if spiced right, your chest area too. 😂
Aside from being a food lover, I decided to dedicate a section of this blog to food because I believe God wants us healthy both in our spiritual lives and our physical lives. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, the spirit of the living God, and what we put into it matters. We can’t be healthy in spirit, feeding on God’s word daily, yet only feeding our body food that is to it’s detriment.
It’s been proven, through research, that the lack of a healthy/balanced diet directly affects our ability to be effective in our day to day tasks. That includes our involvement in ministry and kingdom business. Sometimes it’s not motivation we lack, it’s energy. And that energy is found in eating the right foods.

With that said, this year we’ll take the time to learn a few recipes that are simple, healthy and easy to make. I’m big on family, and so most, if not all, of the meals will be family friendly. Measurements can easily be adjusted to suit bigger groups, or smaller groups. Even down to the individual, if you’ll be trying it out for yourself.
Speaking of family…
Hadassah is my younger sister, and we’re 7 years apart (although it doesn’t always feel that way).
What’s interesting about our sibling dynamic in the kitchen is that where I have a passion for spices, and savoury flavours, she has the same passion for baking.
When I think of baking, I think of structure, super accurate measurements, and no wiggle room for errors. I feel like cooking gives me the freedom to come up with recipes of my own, and if I’m following a set recipe I can wing it according to what we have available in our pantry.
Haddy feels the exact same way, but not really. She has this really uncanny ability to wing baking recipes and have them still turn out great. Yet, when she thinks of cooking savoury dishes, she panics at the thought of not having the exact ingredients mentioned in the ingredients list.
Weird, I know 😂😂.
So I figured, why not bring her on board this year and have her share a few of her own recipes with the fam.
We’ll alternate every month between meals (shared by me) and pastries (shared by her) to bring some variety to each reader’s kitchen. And yes, all recipes will be budget friendly. Dear students, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! 😉
Before I close it off for today… would you as the reader prefer the recipes to come as pictorials picture tutorials consisting of step by step pictures with instructional captions. Or would you rather we just do written out step by step instructions with only a picture of all the ingredients and another of the final product?
